This Privacy Policy explains how Readlio ("the App", "we", "our") handles
your information. Readlio is a speed-reading and focus-training app for
Android, iOS, and desktop.
1. Summary
Readlio is designed to work entirely on your device. There is currently
no user account system and no cloud backend. In short:
Your documents, reading progress, statistics, and settings are stored
locally on your device only, using local storage (Hive) and, on
some platforms, shared_preferences.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use advertising
identifiers or third-party tracking SDKs.
Nothing you read or type is uploaded to us unless you explicitly choose
to export it yourself (e.g. as a JSON backup file that you save and
share on your own).
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide
Documents you open — PDF files, pasted text, or web article URLs
you choose to load into the App. These are processed and stored only
on your device to power the reading experience (RSVP playback, resume
position, etc.).
Settings and preferences — reading speed (WPM), font, theme,
language, accessibility options, reminder time, and similar preferences
you configure in the App.
Bookmarks, highlights and notes — any passage you mark while
reading, plus any note you write on it. Stored on your device only.
2.2 Information collected automatically
Reading statistics — words read, reading time, streaks, and
session counts, computed and stored locally to power the Statistics
screen. These numbers never leave your device unless you export them.
Reading behaviour used for adaptive speed — if you enable Adaptive
Speed, the App counts how often you jump backwards or pause within a
session, and your score on comprehension checks, to suggest a reading
speed. These counts are used on your device in the moment and are not
stored as a history or transmitted.
Diagnostics and usage analytics — the App uses Firebase Crashlytics
and Firebase Analytics to send crash reports and basic, non-identifying
usage events (for example "reading session completed", "badge unlocked",
"reading mode changed") to Google Firebase, so we can fix bugs and
understand which features are used. The content of your documents,
your notes, and the text of anything you read are never included.

Google's Privacy Policy and
Firebase's data processing terms.
2.3 Purchases
If you buy a subscription or the lifetime unlock, the transaction is
handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or
receive your payment details. The App stores only which tier you own, on
your device, so your purchase keeps working offline. Apple's handling of
the transaction is governed by
Apple's Privacy Policy.
2.4 Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, the App schedules notifications
locally on your device. There is no push server, and no notification
data is sent anywhere. You can revoke permission at any time in the iOS
Settings app.
2.5 Read-aloud
Read-aloud uses the speech engine built into iOS. Text is passed to the
operating system to be spoken and is not sent to us. Depending on your
iOS settings and the voice you have installed, Apple may process some of
it; see Apple's privacy documentation for details.
We do not use App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompts because Readlio
does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) or any SDK that tracks you
across other companies' apps or websites.
3. How We Use Information
Locally stored information is used solely to run the App's features:
resuming your place in a document, showing your statistics, remembering
your preferences, and (if enabled) improving stability and understanding
aggregate feature usage through Crashlytics/Analytics.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent your information. We do not share document
content, notes, or highlights with anyone.
Two third parties are involved, each for one narrow purpose:
Google Firebase processes anonymized diagnostic and usage data as
our data processor, solely to provide crash reporting and analytics.
Apple processes purchases through the App Store.
The App also fetches content you ask for from Wikipedia and Project
Gutenberg when you open something in Discover. These requests carry no
account identifier, because the App has no accounts.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Because everything is stored locally, you are always in control:
You can export all your data at any time from Settings → Data →
Export Progress (JSON).
You can permanently delete all locally stored reading progress,
statistics, and settings at any time from Settings → Data → Delete My
Data. This action is irreversible and, since nothing is stored on a
server today, there is nothing left to delete elsewhere.
Uninstalling the App also removes all locally stored data, subject to
your device OS's normal app-uninstall behavior.
6. Children's Privacy
Readlio is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant age of
digital consent in your region) and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example as
features like cloud sync or accounts are introduced in future versions.
We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and material
changes will be reflected in the App's release notes.
